TIFF 2012 and Caribbean Tales: Dominican cinema at Toronto Film Festival 2012

Dominican cinema at Toronto festival

Young Dominican filmmaker Francisco Montas is taking his "Short Stories Written in Exile" project to next week's Toronto International Film Festival. The film project, described as "a dramatic period piece" is based on the short stories by the late former president of the Dominican Republic, Professor Juan Bosch, and will be produced by Montas's Creacion Masiva company.
"Short Stories Written In Exile" is the first feature film production from Creacion Masiva, which has been in operation for five years and has produced a number of short films, documentaries, music videos, TV spots, TV shows and infomercials under screenwriter/producer/director Montas.
The project will be participating in the CaribbeanTales Incubator, a program held in conjunction with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), one of the world's leading cinema events, which includes 17 projects, representing nine countries and four continents. The Dominican filmmaker's participation in Toronto is sponsored by the Film Commission of the Dominican Republic (DGCINE), whose director, Ellis Perez, has also been invited to take part as one of the mentors for the participants.
Soon to be filmed in the Dominican Republic, "Short Stories Written In Exile" is a series of short films illustrating the events that shaped the mind of a young Bosch in the rural Dominican Republic of the 1920s. It is a collective feature film composed of seven segments based on seven short stories by Bosch and directed by eight up-and-coming Dominican directors. One short film has already been completed: "The Indelible Stain" (2009), which along with "The Man Who Cried" (2013) will serve as opening act for the feature film.
During the event, participants get a chance to interact with the thousands of buyers, marketers and producers from around the world who attend the Festival, hone their skills in pitching and marketing their Caribbean projects and expand their vision by seeing some of the most brilliant and accomplished films produced around the world.
