TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL - TIFF 2013 MOVIE BIBLE: 1982

1982

1982, a film inspired by true events at the onset of the crack epidemic in Philadelphia, tells the story of a father and his efforts to protect his gifted daughter from the insidious epidemic which has literally come home via her drug-addicted mother. As his wife becomes more distant and unreliable, he struggles to raise his daughter on his own, while still striving to help his wife become clean. In the process, he learns some hard truths about his marriage and his life, which will ultimately test him as a parent, a husband, and a man. Starring Hill Harper, Sharon Leal, Wayne Brady and young dynamo Troi Zee.

TIFF 2013 MOVIE BIBLE: 45 7 Broadway

45 7 Broadway

Overlapping light and space continue in Tomonari Nishikawa’s 45 7 Broadway, which captures the paralyzing pace and conflicting rhythms of Times Square. Shot on black-and-white 16mm through red, green and blue filters, then optically printed onto colour film through these same filters, 45 7 Broadway is less jazzy than Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie Woogie but equally eye-popping in its colour and illusionistic effect.

TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL - TIFF 2013 MOVIE BIBLE: 'Til Madness Do Us Part

'Til Madness Do Us Part

Fifty men live in an isolated asylum for 12 months. They spend their days locked on one floor, with little contact even with the medical team. Each has been committed for a different reason. They have mental problems, killed people, or have upset some local officials. But once inside, they share the same empty life, walking along the same iron fence courtyard, looking for human warmth among their fellow sufferers.

Judy Greer (born Judith Laura Evans; July 20, 1975) is an American actress known for portraying a string of supporting characters, including Kitty Sanchez on the Fox series Arrested Development and Cheryl Tunt on the animated comedy series Archer. Greer has had a supporting role in a number of romantic comedy films, including The Wedding Planner, 13 Going on 30, 27 Dresses and Love and Other Drugs. She also had a supporting role in the 2011 film The Descendants. In 2011, Greer began hosting an online series of workout videos called Reluctantly Healthy.[1]

Early life

Greer was born Judith Laura Evans in Detroit, Michigan on July 20, 1975, and grew up in Redford Township and Livonia. She was raised Catholic.[2] Greer attended Churchill High School [3] and Bunny Sanfords Academy of Dance in Livonia. In 1997 she graduated from The Theatre School at DePaul University.[4]

Career

Greer had a recurring role on the Fox comedy series Arrested Development (2003–2006), playing Kitty Sanchez in 10 episodes total and appearing in each of the series' three original seasons. In an August 2009 interview, Greer said that she is most recognized for this role.[5] She had supporting roles in Jawbreaker (1999), The Wedding Planner (2001), 13 Going on 30 (2004), The Village (2004), Elizabethtown (2005), 27 Dresses (2008), and Love Happens (2009). Greer has made guest appearances on Just Shoot Me! (2003), CSI: Miami (2005), My Name Is Earl (2006), Two and a Half Men (2007), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2007), Californication (2007–2008, 2012), ER (2009), House (2009), Modern Family (2010), The Big Bang Theory (2010), How I Met Your Mother (2010), and Warren the Ape (2010). She took on a starring role in the ABC sitcom Miss Guided (2008), but it was canceled in its first season.[6] She also starred in the indie satire Visioneers (2008).

In April 2008, Greer appeared as a yoga instructor in the "Get a Mac" ad series alongside John Hodgman and Justin Long.[7] Greer starred in a CBS sitcom entitled Mad Love, which premiered in February 2011 as a midseason replacement 2010–2011.[8] The show was canceled after the first season.[9]
Greer is also a voice actor, voicing the character of Cheryl on the animated comedy series Archer, a character which has been compared to her role on Arrested Development,[10] and the character of Wendy Park on the stop-motion animated sitcom Glenn Martin, DDS.[5] Greer currently portrays Bridget Schmidt, Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher)'s ex-wife on Two and a Half Men. She previously played Myra, a love interest for Charlie Sheen's character, Charlie Harper, and the sister of Herb Melnick, Ryan Stiles' character, on two episodes of the show in 2007.[11]
In November 2011, Greer was honored with the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award at the Denver Film Festival, where two films featuring Greer were in the festival's programming, including a Red Carpet screening of Alexander Payne's The Descendants and the Jay and Mark Duplass' Jeff, Who Lives at Home. She is the first actress to be honored with the award.[12] She was announced as female chimp Cornelia in the upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.[13] She will also appear as gym teacher Miss Desjardin in the 2013 film adaptation of Carrie (2013 film) starring alongside Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Personal life

Greer is married to Dean E. Johnsen, an executive producer of Real Time with Bill Maher.[14]
