The potential new reboot of “Charmed” already has some major detractors — the stars of the original show!
CBS has ordered a pilot script for a “reimagining” of the WB series, on the heels of the success of witch-related shows like FX's “American Horror Story: Coven,” Lifetime's “Witches of East End,” and The CW's “The Originals.”But the stars of the long-running original are not fans of the idea:
“Charmed,” which was produced by the late Aaron Spelling, ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. It followed three good witch sisters played by Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and Shannen Doherty. When Doherty left the show at the end of the third season, McGowan joined the cast as a long-lost half-sister.
The series was a major hit for The WB, breaking ratings records for the fledgling network. Milano (who now stars on ABC’s “Mistresses”) believes it paved the way for the current popularity of witch dramas.
“I think, really, it's due to the success of ‘Charmed’ and the fact that it had so much success even after it was done, meaning that people looked for it, people searched it out and watched those episodes over and over," Milano told E! Online. "The ‘Charmed’ fans are the greatest fans on the planet and the most loyal fans on the planet. I feel like networks are trying to replicate that.”
Well, she was right. CBS is trying to replicate it!
And those “Charmed” fans are very loyal.
