Pentecost won Best Irish Short Film at the Corona Cork Film Festival last year. It was funded by the Irish Film Board and is a light-hearted film about a young altar boy who has to chose between football and serving at Mass. It is a film by Peter McDonald and stars Andrew Bennett, Michael McElhatton and Don Wycherley.
Ciarán Hinds and Conleth Hill star in The Shore, in which two boyhood best friends are divided by a misunderstanding during the Northern Irish Troubles. The film follows what happens when they meet up 25 years later.
Belfast-born director Terry George won Best Director and Ciarán Hinds won Best Male Actor for the film at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in August.
Sadly, Michael Fassbender missed out on a nomination for his leading role in Shame.

Northern Irish film The Shore makes Oscar shortlist
The Shore, written, directed and produced by Terry George, was one of 107 films which originally qualified for the category.
A short film made by a Belfast film-maker has been nominated for an Oscar.
The Shore, written, directed and produced by Terry George, is one of the movies selected in the best short film category.Meanwhile, Belfast actor Kenneth Branagh has also been nominated for an Academy Award.
Branagh has been nominated for best supporting actor for his role in My Week with Marilyn.
Kenneth Branagh was one of the stars of My Week with Marilyn The 30-minute film was shot entirely in Northern Ireland on location in Killough.
Ciaran Hinds said it was a "lovely story about reconciliation and people reconnecting".
Competing with The Shore on the best short film Oscar shortlist is the Irish film Pentecost, which was produced and directed by Peter McDonald and Eimear O'Kane.
It tells the story of an altar boy torn between serving at Mass and playing football.
The Shore and Pentecost have been chosen from 107 entries for the final shortlist of five.
Meanwhile, Kenneth Branagh is up against Jonah Hill, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow.
The 84th annual Academy Awards will take place on 26 February at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Billy Crystal.
