It turns out that in the '80s there was more spinning than the famous wheel on "Wheel of Fortune." In an interview with ESPN2, "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak admitted that he and co-host Vanna White used to get drunk before the show "when I first started and was much younger and could tolerate those things."Sajak began hosting "Wheel of Fortune" in 1981, and once White joined the show in '82, the two began taking lengthy dinner breaks before the show's night tapings. Sajak recalled sneaking away to a Mexican restaurant across the street from their Burbank studios to drink margaritas.
"Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet," said Sajak, now 65. "They're really good tapes to get a hold of."
He admitted the average number of drinks they would knock back was "quatro," and was surprised to note, "no one said anything, so I guess I did OK."
Talk about good fortune.
