After the thousands of pounds they spent on their daughter's nuptials last year, you can understand why the Middletons might want to save a few pennies in 2012.
And their mail-order website, Party Pieces, is helping the rest of the UK to do the same.
The Duchess of Cambridge's parents' family firm was criticised for trying to cash in on the royal wedding last year when they started selling patriotic scratchcards and corgi cake-toppers... so this time they are being a little more cautious.
The latest edition of 'Party Times', the company's blog which is edited by Kate's's sister, Pippa, gives a list of 'Money-saving Party Tips'.
And when listing 2012's top events the blog does mention the Queen's Jubilee but only towards the end of a list that also includes 'an imminent family birthday' and the Olympics.
The company suggests investing in a few staples 'that you can use again and again, such as plastic serving trays, dishes and cake stands.'
It all sounds very sensible, but some will question why the family had to mention the Queen's Jubilee at all in what is essentially promotional material for the website.
The introduction of the blog entry reads: 'It’s the beginning of the year and peoples’ minds are filled with bargains; January sales are everywhere with deals galore. Why should planning for a party be any different?

'Whether it’s an imminent family birthday or a gathering to celebrate the Olympics or the Jubilee later in 2012 we offer a few ideas to help keep costs down and still throw a memorable party,' it says.

The post continues: 'Now’s the time to stock up and fill the cupboard with essentials, so take advantage of January discounts and get in a new celebration banner which will cover all your favourite birthday celebrations.'
It goes on to provide links to other parts of the site where you can buy balloons, sets of party plates, platters, bunting, cake stands and even things to put in your party bags.

However, the post carefully avoids linking to the company's patriotic merchandise, the 'Best of British' range which includes classy paper plates, colourful napkins and cardboard cake stands.
All will make for a fun summer party, but we doubt it will come close to how Kate will be celebrating come June.
