REALITY TV: Whosarmy wins ‘Cover Me Canada’

(CBC)

"Cover Me Canada" crowned a winner last night on the CBC reality-competition show, giving Toronto rock group Whosarmy a recording contract for their first single (to be released through Universal Music Canada) and a $100,000 cash prize.
Over the last eight weeks, the Big Smoke-based band have wowed the show's judges, including New Kids on the Block member Jordan Knight, producer Ron Fair, and singer Deborah Cox. The band clearly struck a chord with viewers as well, since the audience voted for the group to take home the grand prize.
Bandmates Cory Williams, Travis Wood, Greg Markham, and Max Trefler battled it out on stage one last time on Sunday, going head-to-head with the Melanie Morgan band from Cap-Pelé, N.B. In the end, Whosarmy rocked the house, performing "Hallelujah," "Ironic," and "The Weight."

"Ultimately it came down to two finalists that proved to Canadian audiences that they had what it takes to dominate a stage and leave their mark on the Canadian music scene," said judge Ron Fair. "Only one could win and we thought that these young men are consummate musicians and deserved to win.  They are not afraid of challenging themselves and they always respected the spirit of the songs they were performing while [being] not afraid to branch out with their own unique arrangements."
Fair added: "Travis's vocal range and showmanship is fantastic. We know they will have a strong future."
As part of their prize, Whosarmy is releasing a single called "Alive," which the band performed last night. The group wrote the song with hit maker Chantal Kreviazuk.
