daytime queen Susan Lucci would be making the rounds on Wisteria Lane come 2012 after All My Children went dark in September, but as it turns out, it’s another former AMC star who will be co-starring on Desperate Housewives next year.
Canadian Cameron Mathison, famous for portraying the role of Ryan Lavery from 1998 until AMC’s end in 2011, has inked a deal to guest-star on Desperate Housewives for an episode in January as Bree van de Kamp’s latest love interest.
For those keeping track, Mathison’s character will be the third beefed-up stud to come knocking on the Marcia Cross character’s front door in the past two seasons. Lucky actress.
Mathison tweeted about the role on his official Twitter account, hinting that he might be baring a little more than his feelings in the episode.
“Back working at Desperate Housewives,” he wrote. “Doing lots of pushups before my scene. That’s all I’m saying.”
Mathison was going to continue his role as Ryan on the online revival of All My Children before production company Prospect Park pulled the plug on the project due to financial reasons.
The 42-year-old actor obviously has some goodwill with ABC, the network behind both Housewives and All My Children. He also appeared as one of the celebrity dancers on the Alphabet network’s fifth season of Dancing With the Stars, where he was eliminated just one week shy of the semi-finals.
This current eighth season of Desperate Housewives is the series’ final one. Cherry and ABC president Paul Lee made the announcement last summer at the Television Critics Association sumer press tour, where Cherry also announced that he is currently working on a new project, a prime-time soap called Devious Maids, which is based on a Mexican telenovela.
