In a crowded movie calender, Charlize Theron clearly knew she had to go the extra mile to get some attention for her new film Young Adult. And the 36-year-old star certainly succeeded in New York today as she pulled out all the stops in the fashion stakes.
All eyes were on the South African born actress in a red hot leather mini dress and strappy leather shoes at the New York premiere of the comedy drama.
Glamour girl: Charlize Theon looked stunning in a red leather red mini dress and black and white striped number as she promoted her new film Young Adult in New York today
Just a few hours earlier, the Oscar-winning star had glammed up in a black and white knee-length dress with geometric design and black stripe running down the back.
The star wore the stunning Antonio Berardi designed number for an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, teaming it with Tom Ford black strappy sandals.
Red hot: Charlize looked happy and relaxed in the tight red leather dress as she joked with photographers at the city's Ziegfeld Theatre
Back on the big screen: Chalize's latest movie is her first since providing a voice for animation Astro Boy back in 2009
The film sees her star as Mavis Gray, a writer of teen literature and one-time school bully who returns to her small hometown to recapture her youth.
Once there, she embarks on a mission to reclaim her now happily married high school sweetheart, played by Patrick Wilson, who was also at tonight's premiere with his wife Dagmara Domińczyk.
Lady in red: The high necked sleeveless leather dress showed off the South-African actress's svelte figure
The white stuff: Charlize looked to be doing a bit of a balancing act on her high heels as she left the taping for Letterman in Manhattan
The actress, who is currently single after splitting with long term boyfriend Stuart Townsend, recently said she was especially attracted to the character of Mavis when she first read Cody's script.
Low cut: The actress's plunging outfit also showed off her toned arms and slim legs
Covering up: The Monster star earlier hid her revealing dress with a snug black jacket
'She says things like, "Don’t you know love conquers all?" It’s the typical sixteen-year-old saying. Here she is thirty-seven trying to get her life together, and she just doesn’t have the tools to do it.'
Red carpet glamour: Louisa Krause, Collette Wolfe and Mamie Gummer accompanied by Ben Walker all stepped things up in the style stakes
And Charlize also revealed that, unlike her character, she had never called an old flame in reality.'The other thing I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing to call up an old love. I have not done that. I don’t know. Not if they’re married with a newborn baby right?'
Stars of the show: Young Adult actress Elisabeth Reaser wore a short silver dress while screenwriter Diablo Cody plumped for a simple black number at tonight's premiere
Suited and booted: The movie's male stars Patrick Wilson and Patton Oswalt arrived looking smart on the red carpet
Wifely support: Patrick posed with his actress wife Dagmara Domińczyk who wore a black ensemble
Feeling young again: Charlize plays a woman who returns to her home town to reclaim her lost love
And surprisingly, the stunning actress, who grew up in Benoni, near Johannesburg, didn't have too much of a good time at school.
'I was pretty much a mess out of primary school,' she recalled. 'I really experienced a lot more of that stuff from the ages of seven to twelve, where there was a really popular girl at my school, and I was obsessed with her, like you’d go to jail for that stuff today.
'I’m so embarrassed to say this, but I was in tears one day, because I couldn’t sit next to her. Oh I have issues,' she added.
However, the star overcame her 'issues,' but says she wasn't popular at high school.'I was pretty much a mess out of primary school,' she recalled.
'By the time I went to high school I was kind of broken in and more immune to all of that stuff,' she recalled.
'I wasn’t really in the popular crowd. I went to art school. I was kind of obsessed with ballet.
'I wore really nerdy glasses. I was blind as could be, and boys don’t really like big nerdy glasses. Not so much.
'I didn’t have any boyfriends, but I had a massive crush on this guy, who this interviewer that just did a story on me for Vogue actually found, and he was all like, "Yeah tell her the crush was mutual."
'F*** that. It was not mutual, and he was like, "Oh I remember she wore those glasses."
Young Adult will be released on December 16.
